  • Type: Small globular cactus

  • Body: Dark green, slightly flattened globe with well-defined ribs

  • Areoles: Creamy-white, woolly areoles arranged neatly along ribs

  • Spines: Very short, soft, pale spines (almost spineless look)

  • Size: 5–8 cm diameter in pots

The clean ribs, soft star-like areoles, and compact round shape are classic features of Gymnocalycium anisitsii, a very popular nursery cactus.

☀️ Care Guide (Ideal for Indian Conditions)

Light

  • Bright light with morning sun

  • Avoid harsh afternoon sun in peak summer

  • Too much shade → stretched body

Water

  • Water only when soil is completely dry

  • Summer: every 7–10 days

  • Winter: every 3–4 weeks
⚠️ Overwatering is the main killer

Soil

Fast-draining cactus mix:

  • 50% grit / sand / perlite

  • 30% garden soil

  • 20% compost or cocopeat

Pot

  • Small pot with good drainage hole

  • Terracotta preferred

  • Keep snug—oversized pots hold excess moisture

Temperature

  • Ideal: 18–35°C

  • Protect from heavy monsoon rain

  • Sensitive to prolonged cold & wet conditions

Fertilizer

  • Once a month during growing season

  • Diluted low-nitrogen cactus fertilizer

🌸 Flowering

  • Blooms in spring–summer

  • Flowers are white to pale pink, silky and large relative to plant size

  • Flowers emerge from near the crown (no wool tube)

🌱 Propagation

  • Seeds (most common)

  • Offsets if produced (rare but possible)

⚠️ Common Problems

  • Rot: Overwatering or poor drainage

  • Shriveling: Underwatering or extreme heat

  • Sunburn: Sudden exposure to strong sun
